The Wine & Spirit Education Trust is the largest provider of wine education in the world. Their qualifications are recognised throughout the world, and they are regarded as the industry benchmark for those working in the wine trade and related retail/ hospitality sectors. Professional wine tasting is taught through the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting.
The structure of these wine courses means that they are suited to individuals who want to learn for their own personal enjoyment, but in a comprehensive and structured framework.
Courses are offered at consecutive levels:
WSET Level 1 Award in Wine suited to people starting off for the first time, in a career working with wine.
WSET Level 2 Award in Wines – for private & professionals who want to be able to understand the terms seen on wine & spirit labels. (This qualification was formerly known as the Intermediate Certificate).
WSET Level 3 Award in Wines gives a thorough understanding of the principal wines & spirits of the world. (This qualification was formerly known as the Advanced Certificate, although the course has changed significantly over recent years).
WSET qualifications are accredited by the National Framework Qualification of Ireland (NFQ), and are recognised as such by the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland.
