WSET Intermediate Certificate is now offered as a distance learning option to candidates in Ireland by Premier Wine Training. Spokesperson, Maureen O’Hara, recognises a need by individuals in areas not serviced by a WSET provider, as well as those who find it difficult to attend a course of classes due to other commitments. “The online course is not an easy way out by any means. The course requires full commitment and self-discipline, as the WSET Intermediate syllabus is very comprehensive. Candidates are required to commit to 28 hours of study outside of online classes” – Maureen O’Hara.
The distance learning course consists of a series of on-line activities, often based on group discussions, with an on-line tutor allocated to guide the students’ studies. A timed feedback test is provided at the end of each week for students to practice for the exam and assess their understanding of that week’s topics.
Group tasting activities are also provided to familiarise students with the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting. Candidates are also eligible to attend two classroom tasting tutorials, based in Dublin, at the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel.
The course costs €285, and the next course starts on 5th Feb 2011. For further details contact Maureen O’Hara at Premier Wine Training (086 240 1916; [email protected])
